PURSUIT OF THE REAL

Barbara Walker Monday to Friday, 7am to 10pm Saturday and Sunday, 7am to 7pm (27.07.12 - 12.08.12)

A celebration and development in painting and text of the classic Ladybird children’s books from the 1960s and 1970s with their simple stories of domestic routine, and of shopping in sunny high streets where kindly, silver-haired shopkeepers wrapped everything in brown paper, and mummy wore gloves. The intention is to critically subvert, support and develop contemporary visual debates.
These paintings borrow the style of Ladybird illustrators John Berry and Martin Atchison but explore issues of nationality, race and city spaces. The intent is to critically subvert, support and develop contemporary visual debates
